Introducing One Dollar Photography

This picture just a buck!
Hello and welcome to my blog, and my photographs.  Just what is "One Dollar Photography" and how is it that I came upon the concept.  The easy answer would be to say I am tired of being a "Starving Artist" who struggles each and every day to make ends meet.  The truth is, I am unemployed, and need to find a way to earn a living doing what I love, that feeds my passion.  However, the answer is more than that for me.

I have always wanted to make my artwork affordable to EVERYONE, rather than making it available to only those of above average financial means.   Lots of people have told me, "Sherwood, your photographs are stunning, you should sell them."  Heard just as often when my framed and matted works are on public display is something like, "Your work is absolutely stunning, wish I could afford to buy a piece."  Printing, matting and framing one of my photographs costs money.  Then you have booth fees if I am doing an art/craft show, travel expenses, and none of this includes the equipment I need and/or want to improve on my craft.  In short, a fine quality framed and matted 11 X 14 print in a 16 X 20 frame suddenly is very expensive for a lot of people who love my work.   Fact is, if I were someone looking at my work, I would love it, but could not afford to buy a piece or two for my home.

A possible solution popped in my mind one day while in "Bed Bath and Beyond" where they had some 16 X 20 frames (with matts and glass) on sale for about $20.00 each.  Add to that the cost of having say Adoramapic printing up a 11 X 16 high quality print from one of my JPEG's and one is looking at about $25.00 framed and hanging on the wall....even if you add in some shipping for the print, you are still well under $40.00  I cannot even frame my own prints (and I buy wholesale) for that price, and that is without factoring in any kind of an hourly wage for the time it takes me!

It was at that moment one of those "what if" questions popped into my head.  What if I could put my high resolution JPEG's into peoples hands, and they could print and frame the pieces themselves?  One Dollar Photography was born...one high resolution JPEG image ready to be sent off to the printer for one buck...simple!  My customers get fabulous photographic images that can be printed and framed for under $40.00 and hopefully I sell enough images to earn a living.  I'd toss an artist or photographer a buck for an image I really liked...will you?  I am hoping so.

If you like my simple concept, if you would like to help meet live my life and pay my bills, please share a link to this blog on your blog, on Twitter, Facebook or other social media sites.

You get the picture...I get a buck!
